Ahavat Yisrael

The Ahavat Yisrael Jewish Community of Uganda, part of the Abayudaya, has preserved a rich Jewish identity in a predominantly Christian and Muslim region. Originating in the early 20th century under the leadership of Semei Kakungulu, the community adopted Judaism and established distinctive practices rooted in traditional Jewish law and African culture. Today, the community, with a membership of about 2,000, continues to thrive under the leadership of Natan Zechariah Moshe ben Efraim, fostering a vibrant spiritual and cultural life.

The community is fundraising to support critical initiatives such as maintaining synagogues, providing education through Jewish schools, and meeting basic community needs like food security and healthcare. These efforts are essential to ensure the sustainability of their Jewish identity and to address economic challenges that disproportionately affect this rural Ugandan community.

Located in eastern Uganda, the Ahavat Yisrael community serves as a beacon of Jewish life in Africa. Funds are utilized throughout the year to sustain ongoing programs, celebrate Jewish holidays, and respond to urgent community needs. Every contribution helps ensure that this unique community continues to flourish despite the challenges they face.

Your support enables the community to allocate resources to key areas: maintaining places of worship, offering scholarships to children in their schools, and providing relief to families in need. Donations are distributed transparently to have the maximum impact, ensuring that each dollar contributes directly to preserving and enriching Jewish life in Uganda.
